Symbolist V1

126 Pages of Paintings.

The Symbolist movement emerged in the late nineteenth century as a powerful reaction against the materialism and realism that dominated European art and literature. Beginning in the 1880s and flourishing into the early twentieth century, Symbolism sought not to depict the external world with accuracy, but to convey inner truths, spiritual mysteries, and the hidden dimensions of existence. While rooted in poetry and literature, Symbolism spread across painting, sculpture, and the decorative arts, inspiring a generation of artists who valued imagination, dream imagery, and esoteric symbolism over strict naturalism.
